Originally reel had a 6 shielded bearing system:3, ball bearings across spool shaft, 1, ball bearing on crankshaft base, 1, ball bearing on level wind worm shaft, 1, 1-way clutch roller bearing on crankshaft, However
, during the recent clean and lube, I found the ball bearing on the level wind worm shaft damaged (internally rough) and replaced it (and the Line Guide Pipe Alignment Bushing that goes with it), with the bushing-only system from the 4-bearing model reels and annotated the schematic accordingly. (Field-testing revealed performance as great as it ever was) DUE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED CHANGE, THIS ONE, PROBABLY, SHOULD BE CALLED A "TRION 45" BECAUSE IT IS, NOW, A 5-BEARING SYSTEM, NOT 6
Reel is approximately 20 years old.
From my personal stash - I bought it, used, approx 8-10 years ago.
Recent clean, lube and field-tested (by me).
Always stored and transported covered.
Mechanically, the reel is excellent with an effective and smooth-working drag, smooth gears, good line lay and excellent casting characteristics.
Cosmetically it looks very good with some of the printing worn off from the crank handle, left side plate and thumb rest area and a few and minor scratches/nicks/"boat rash".
Reel shipped with the drag and the spool shaft pressure (spool tension) adjustments backed off and all 4 brakes engaged.
Line Retrieve rate is approximate and calculated at recommended spool fill (about 90% of capacity).
This is, probably, the best-performing of these model/type reels that I have owned. I've enjoyed using it but, quite simply, it's time to thin out the stash.
